The 21st Astronomical Camping
(Radio Meteor Observation)
At the night of 6-7 September 1998 JAS held the 21st astronomical camping in Al-Azraq desert to observe meteors by radio. Kindly find below the results achieved during our first experiment in observing meteors by radio which was successfully done in that camping. 173 meteors were observed in three hours.
- Observers: Moh'd Alawneh, Moh'd Odeh, and Tareq Katbeh
- Location: Al-Azraq desert, Jordan (37 07' E, 31 43' N)
- Frequency: 97.2 MHz
- Transmitter Location: Five Stations:-
- Turkey, 750 Km at 30 KW Power.
- Turkey, 900 Km at 30 KW Power.
- Turkey, 1106 Km at 30 KW Power.
- Turkey, 811 Km at 05 KW Power.
- Cyprus, 600 Km at 10 KW Power.
- Antenna: Yagi FM 3 elements.
- Receiver: Commercial FM radio (Eroica).
- Observing Method: Listening by ear.
7-8 September 1998 (Times are UT)
22:44 - 23:44 : 44 meteors.
00:05 - 01:05 : 65 meteors.
02:00 - 03:00 : 64 meteors.
